Combing movie quality real-time motion capture rigs and AAA- quality game experiences with the use of the Oculus Rift, guests will definitely get the full experience the best of the latest VR technology that’s available in the market! With its headquarters based in California, they’ve now branched out to many countries such as Vancouver Hong Kong, Jakarta, Macau and of course, Singapore! Psst, here’s a little insider secret, they have more branches spread across America that’s on their way! They truly are a well-established international virtual reality chain!
My Experience
Alright so let me bring you through my experience at Sandbox VR Singapore. To me, customer service is very important and it really completes the entire package. Sandbox VR provides one of the best customer services. When you walk in you’ll be enthusiastically greeted by one of their staff, who’ll give you an electronic wavier that you’ve got to fill up. After which you’ll be given a 15-minute briefing about what’s going to happen and about the game you’re about to play. We opted to give their latest game Amber Sky a try.
Here’s a little background about the game, you and you’re the team will journey to 2088 Hong Kong to protect a mysterious package that is humanity’s last line of defense from the invasion of earth. The cool thing about this game is that it has two endings, you’re team could either succeed or fail in delivering the package.
Alright, after the short briefing, your team will then have to decide on a team name and roles you will want to take on. There will be defenders and attackers. The defenders will carry both a shield and a handgun. The shield also doubles up as a boomerang which you can use to slice your enemies in two! Attackers will get a rifle which also acts as a flame thrower when you hold down the trigger.
When I first entered the game play area(the green room) the air conditioning was on full blast and there were fans in the room as well. It was super cold, but don’t worry once they suit you up with the vest and the Oculus rift things magically start to get warmer.
Surprisingly, the vest and backpack weren’t as heavy as I expected. The gameplay view in the oculus rift also shows a demarcation line where you shouldn’t cross because after all you are still in a room and you might run into a wall. If you do get too close to the line, the vest you are wearing will vibrate and the graphics in your oculus rift will also get blurry to warn you to take a step back, so there’s no need to worry about running into a wall and hurting yourself.
The game itself had super impressive graphics. You could see your own legs! It was so crazy. The game was so smooth with minimal lag, you really feel fully immersed in the game! In Amber Sky, you find yourself in a glass elevator most of the time, it was crazy. You can see through the “glass” and it really does give you the illusion that you’re moving. With the added effects from the vibration of the vests and the wind from the fans, it really created an unforgettable experience!
At the end of everything, you’ll be presented with a short video of your entire experience. Perfect for Instagram! Sandbox really packaged the whole experience very well from the time you step into their store till the moment you leave. It is definitely the perfect place for you and your group of friends to hang out! Singapore isn’t as boring as it seems, you just got to take the step to explore!
